Re: Be a Better Writer--YOU WRITE IN 2ND PERSON
I have done 2nd person imperative at least twice. I don't think I've ever attempted strict 2nd person before. I've been doing the challenge long enough to try pretty much everything else, though. I loved the "Choose Your Own Adventure" books when I was younger. Interestingly enough, with t...

Re: Be a Better Writer--A TOUCH OF POV
I write in 1st person a lot. I know I've said other places (probably multiple times) that for me when I'm writing, it's almost like a movie, but mostly with dialog and action. The details, like the characters' appearance and the setting are quite vague. Sometimes I am that character, and so I'll use...

Re: Winners for SLOTH Challenge
Yay! I had a lot of fun with this one, and I'm glad the judges thought it was fun too, apparently.
Congrats to everyone else, also!

Re: Be a Better Writer--Description (Kind Of)
See, I think I may have almost the opposite problem. I have said that when I write, it's almost like a movie is playing in my head. But that's really not quote right, because it's a really blurry movie. I couldn't write about the tall, thin, girl with flowing blond hair that wraps around her f...

Re: Be a Better Writer--PLAYS, SKITS, AND SCREENPLAYS
Okay. Here's my mini one, coming in at 99 words. (DARCY walks into her bedroom. Her make-up is strewn across her vanity.) DARCY: Katie! Get in here right now! (KATIE skips in, lipstick and other make-up all over her face.) KAITE: Hi, Sis! Look at me. I'm all growed up, just like you. (DARCY takes d...

Re: Be a Better Writer -- GENDER NEUTRAL LANGUAGE
Okay. I havne't looked at anyone's answers, I promise. 1. …to boldly go where no man has gone before ...to bodly go where no one has gone before. 2. A two-year-old usually clings to his mother in unfamiliar places. Two-year-old children usually cling to their mothers in unfamiliar places. 3. The ste...

Re: Be a Better Writer -- COMING OF AGE STORY
So since you say it changes the child for the rest of their life, as they move into adulthood, does it really need to a teen? Or can it be a child reflecting on how it WILL affect the rest of their lives? What if that event is something where the child isn't sure if they will reach adulthood? Can it...

Re: Be a Better Writer--SUSPENSE/THRILLER
I'm not sure I know how to write suspense/thriller. This is definitley one genre that is out of my element, so I'm really going to try to stretch myself and enter. This entry is the closest I have,I think. It's more speculative fiction, maybe? But I wonder if it might also fit suspense/thriller. Jus...

Re: Highest Rankings for HUMOR Challenge
lol My favorite and perhaps even my best genre and I don't even make the top 20. Oh well. I kind of figured this mine dealt with too narrow/specialized of a topic to do well in the challenge. I guess I was right.
I think it was one of those that I just had to write out.
Congrats to all!

Re: Be a Better Writer--HUMOR WRITING
Okay. I know the humor writing topic is over, but I'm just now getting to posting here. I can't NOT post in the one about my favorite genre. Humor is almost my default "go to" with the challenge these days, in part, because so many people take the serious approach. I figure, if nothing els...

Re: Be a Better Writer--FREE VERSE
I'm going to post a couple of mine here. This first one actually does sound like prose "arrange artfully" so it may not be free verse, but it actually placed 1st in the challenge. I do try to at least keep my stanzas in a similar format, so it "feels" more like poetry. I don't kn...

Re: Highest Rankings for CUP AND SAUCER Challenge
Interesting. Personally I thought my entry for "Cup and Saucer" was MUCH stronger than my one that made EC last week. *chuckles* Oh well. Really, it just goes to show that some pieces we think aren't as good are better than we think.
Congrats!!!

Re: Winners for LOCK AND KEY Challenge
*shakes head* I'm still amazed that this little skit did so well. I was so afraid that I hadn't made the point clear enough, and that it was too off-the-wall. But the judges seemed to get it and liked it, so that's good.
