Oh man. Soooooooooooo close! :| (Is that the best "bitter sweet" face we have? :? Maybe that one...) I thought it wouldn't do well, because it seems children's stories don't do as well. And then to see 11th! :)

A bit CONGRATS to everyone else on the lists as well!!!

Wow. I was not expecting that. Totally stepped out of the box on this one. I had the general idea early on, but decided to wait until the end to see if there would be a summary topic. So "empty and full" wasn't my best options for what I did, but it appears the judges didn't mind much. :)

You know it's kind of funny when it comes to titles. A lot of times, I can come up with great titles for someone else's piece, but not for my own. I wonder if it's because I'm too close to my own writing to see what stands out to a "new" reader, but when I'm reading other peoples', things jump out t...

I know I've mentioned this movie before, but one of my favorite examples of suspense in film is Apollo 13. I don't care how many times I watch it, and I don't care that I KNOW the ending. The re-entry sequence in that movie is... well.... astounding, really, and it gets my heart pumping every single...

Allison, those are EXCELLENT examples. Your hints are there, all right, but very subtle--until you know the surprise, and then they're GLARING. Perfect! Any tips for us on what your thinking process is when you come up with these surprises? SPOILER WARNING: Do not read the paragraphs below if you h...

Oh goody. I was looking forward to this one. I've done a few "surprise" stories, some successfully, and some not as much. I don't know that I've personally had this experience, but I think there can be times, even, when the author unintentionally surprise the readers. I think we as authors sometimes...

Okay, so I'm going to post my entry that's closest to a "true" monologue. But almost all of my 1st person fiction entries have at least one line spoken by another character. I do have a few journal/letter and other unique format entries that don't have any dialogue, but I don't think those would cou...
