I am still becoming, and that is a treasured truth.
And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
2 Corinthians 3:18, ESV
By vocation, I am a high school language arts teacher with twenty-four years of experience loving kids, loving language, and offering myself to completing that mission as a follower of Jesus.
A truer biography would go beyond a vocational label, though. There is a much richer story our lives tell, and the best parts of that story include seeing God's hand on our lives, always moving us through circumstance to more knowledge of Him and of ourselves as vessels of His love, grace, and mercy.
I do not think it is an accident that when divorce and a crumbling of many things that I thought were certain in my life came to me three years ago, my grief re-ignited in me a passion for written expression. Writing became a release, a growing questioning--even an ongoing conversation with the One who has always been faithful. Nothing thrills me quite like seeing how He has taken that explosion of my soul and focused it on Him.
I know, now, that I am not just a teacher or a mother or a sister or a middle-aged woman starting over again. First and foremost, I am a blood-bought daughter of the Creator of the Universe who is waiting to see Him face to face. While I wait, I can give myself up to redeeming the time by using what gifts He has given me. I am a writer, and Lord willing, I will use my writer's voice to point to Jesus as often as I can in whatever way I can. I can't help it; writing is in me, just as surely as He is in me.
