I enjoy my children’s laughter so much that from almost the first minute I held them I was trying to provoke it. I tickled their backs and blew raspberries on their bellies in pursuit of giggles and smiles. Now that they are older I still tell silly stories, make funny faces, chase them around, and sing goofy songs in pursuit of this most beautiful noise. And I am only a very limited, very selfish, human mom.
God is the best possible Father. We are His children. Seeing us happy brings Him pleasure. Hearing our laughter delights Him. In Matthew 7:11 the Bible says, “If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”
Laughter is a gift from God. It should be cherished and used to glorify Him.
The Father’s Joy
As a mother holds her baby boy
And delights in him
Our Father holds His children
And loves to laugh with them
As we revel in those baby steps
Sweet giggles, smiles and coos
Our Father watches as we grow
And enjoys the good we do
As Sarah did with Isaac
God laughs at our surprise
That He does the impossible
To give us abundant lives
As we who are so limited
Would quick give all we have
To bless our children mightily
And ache to see them sad
How much more our Father
Loves to hear us laugh
We enjoy His blessings
And He is pleased with that
