They are cuddly, cute and curious. They steal our hearts and are faithful to us. Some may be spoilt but most are well trained. The tricks you can make them do, you must see them to believe.
Yes. I am talking about pets. Our loving companions. My visually challenged friend relies largely on his dog. He perceives danger, depth and hurdles with his its help. He strides forward confidently with his dog on leash. Both of them go together as a single unit, as it were.
Another good friend of mine, a dear old lady, has no one to stay home with her. Her reason to live and constant companion, is her lovely pet, a German shepherd.
Fred who is an outdoorsman has a couple of pets, which literally dog his steps. (Pun intended).
I could go on. Pets give companionship. They entertain. They help humans in more ways than one. They give lonely and shut-in people a reason to live for. Some people live only to take care of their pets, just as perhaps some pets live and die for their masters.

I sat musing about pets and their masters, the humans. “Are we God’s pets? What do you think?” wondered my imaginative self. “I think you are way out.” Replied my more critical self. “Well then, what’s the difference?” persisted the other self.

We, humans are made in the image of God, Our Creator. We are endowed with rationality and a power to choose. The freedom of choice makes us unique as creatures made by God. In the ultimate analysis, we choose either to serve God or not to serve Him. We can fly into His arms or (try to) flee far from Him. The choice, which is free, is totally dependent on you and me.
God in His Omnipotence created us first. And then when we strayed far from Him, He sent His One and Only Son, the Lord Jesus Christ to die on the cross for us. So, He is both our Creator and Redeemer.
I can at best be the owner of my pet. I did not create it. Neither have a redeemed it.
God in His mercy reveals Himself to us. Only then can we get to know Him. He deigned to reveal Himself to us through His Son, the living Word and through the Bible, His Spoken Word.
Our pets on the other hand see us, smell us feel us and know us as long as we are around. They do not worship us. They do not owe much to us. Perhaps we feed and care for them. But what God does to us is far, far more important. He made us, redeemed. All that we have and are is because of His abundant mercies. Blessed be His Name!
We are not God’s pets, my friends. We are far more important to Him. We are His children. May Our Heavenly Father’s Name be blessed forever more.
