Garrison believed his findings were the most amazing scientific uncovering in the history of mankind; by succumbing to the teachings of Jesus of Nazereth, people could actually alter their genetic structure. Amazing, he thought. In fact, he thought it all the time. He had made a commitment to the man who came to earth to alter human genes. What other faith changed genetic structure?
“Dr. Notelle, thank you for seeing me on such short notice,” Garrison said, entering the elaborate yet a slightly cluttered office of his boss. “I was wondering if you had the chance to review the data I submitted?”
“Indeed, I have read every page. I read it all twice. Then I tossed it all in the fire pit behind the administrative office and burned all of it.”
“Burned it?”
“Yes, Dr. Joust, I burned it.”
“Why would you do that?”
“Your work proves that when a human accepts the man from Nazareth’s claims that human is made a new creature.”
“Why do you call him the man from Nazareth? His name is Jesus.”
“I know his name, Dr. Joust. I know it well,” Dr. Notelle answered as he pulled the .38 caliber semi-automatic from his desk drawer. “It is not in the best interest of my fallen comrades for this information to be brought forward.”
“Comrades?”
“Demons, Dr. Joust, fallen angels. That is my heritage. And my mission is to make sure your findings never leave this institute.”
Dr. Joust made a break for the door. Dr. Notelle raised the weapon and pulled the trigger.
