If you do this, then you're fishing. Fishing for answers rather than stating your feelings, because your feelings are YOUR TRUTH, it's fine if they are'nt his, it's important that we are honest with ourselves before we can ever hope to be honest with others in our life.
"I don't really want to volunteer all of my time this Saturday, but I don't want them to think I'm phony."
You're fishing. Why commit yourself to something you don't want to do in order to shield yourself from the view of others. The activity that you're volunteering for recieves no real love and committment from you, until your focus is released to the committment you've undertaken, and not the preception that motivates the activity you've volunteered for.
"I'll stay late tonight, and then they'll see how hard I want that promotion."
You're fishing. Why don't you simply clear your throat and let your supervisor know your interested in the promotion, ask them if they have any areas of concern that would prevent you from promoting. Take their concerns to heart and seek to make improvements in the area noted. If you continue to stay late in hope someone will notice, they may notice you haven't had enough time in the day to complete your assignments, and to bombard you with additional assignments through a promotion would not be advantageous to you at this time.
The Bible says out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks, if your love is true, your mouth will simply speak it, if your actions are truly charitable your attitude will show it, and if your work is truly worthy of promotion it (your work) will make all of the introductions for the promotion you seek.
When we fish for things we rob ourselves of God's outcome, for our true desires are hidden and masked by fear, rejection, and uncertainty. II Timothty 1:7 says "For God did not give us the spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind."
Use these words as the cornerstone to stop fishing for answers to questions you have, be bold for the Bible says, you have not, because you ask not.
