Genesis, the beginning of the bible deals with the Creation, the beginning of God’s world. The word Genesis means origin, or coming into being of something, and creation means making something new, a beginning of something that might not have been created before. Revelation, the end of the bible, tells us that Jesus is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. John, the apostle, starts with “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Beautiful beginnings for us Christians to recognize that God gave His Word from the beginning because of His love for us and that His Word is truth, and the truth shall set us free.
The wonder and thrill of seeing something that we have planted begin to sprout, a new shoot pushing its way through the soil, never cease. New pups, new kittens, new cubs always hold our interest. What about the human babies? Each new baby is a special joy. I couldn’t believe the way my son looked at me when I said “Hello Noel” when the doctor brought him to me. Babies were not supposed to be able to focus when they’re just born. They are either sleeping or looking nowhere in particular. Noel’s eyes were clear and looking into mine as if he already knew I was his mother. That was the beginning of a beautiful relationship. With God’s help he grew up to be a very decent person.
The birth of Jesus, prophesied by Isaiah, is the beginning of a change in the life of man. It was the divine intervention of the Creator to bring into holy Being the Saviour of mankind. Now, for the first time, there is hope for the salvation and redemption of people. A word, a touch, a little spittle and the lives of the poor, the sick and tormented changed forever. He brought “healing in His wings.” Man’s sins can now be forgiven for the Son of Man was chosen to suffer and to be crucified on the cross to absolve us from our perfidy. Because of His great love that encompasses all, we have an opportunity to become more like Him. If we love one another as He loves us, there will be no reason to sin. Cor. 13:4-8 Paul says to the Corinthians, Love is patient and kind ……….Love bears all things, …….endures all things. Love never ends;”
When we put our faith in God, He directs our steps from beginning to end. We chart our own course to our peril. Sometimes we get carried away by our successes and forget our dependence on God and we are saddened by the results. Psalm 111:10 says “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all those who practise it.” This fear is not associated with terror and fright. This fear is based on respect and worship of the Lord. It compels us to obey His Word, which God gave us from the beginning of time. It is when God saw how the nations were disobeying His Word and were worshipping idols, gods made with human hands, that He intervened by sending His only begotten Son as an expiation for our sins.
By trusting in God, all our beginnings can have satisfactory endings. They may not be the endings we wanted or expected, but they may prove to be a lot more worthwhile than the ones we were hoping for. Trust in God, fear Him and follow in His footsteps. He is the Way, the Truth and the Light.
In my earlier years, I made many attempts to start different ventures, without success. I thought in most cases they were too trivial and not worthwhile praying for. I learned later that this was very foolish. Nothing is too small or too insignificant for us to call on God for His help. Since then I have asked God to lead the way, to direct my steps, to give me wisdom to make right decisions, to let go and let God. I am happier now. He has led my path to Faith Writers and I am doing something I long wanted to, that is to write. I am glad too that I began this journey of writing and sharing God’s Word with others along the way.
