I was a mere twenty years old when I gathered enough courage to submit my writing for publication. Although I had no idea what I was doing, two of my poems were accepted for publication by Blue Mountain Arts greeting card company. That was the only confirmation I needed - I finally considered myself a "real writer!"
Since then, my work has been published in printed magazines, such as Christian Home & School, online publications including, Sistersinthelord.com, and several FaithWriters anthologies. I also served as a column editor and author interviewer for FaithWriters Online magazine. I am an occasional contributor to the magazine and currently enjoy serving as book reviewer.
The first twenty-five pages of my novel, Mind Over Madi, finalled in the chicklit.com "Get Your Stiletto in the Door" contest. Although I didn't win, the judging agent did request the full manuscript! Woo-Hoo! This same novel's first chapter also was a runner-up in the FaithWriters 2007 Page Turner contest.
Besides writing, I work part-time at a children's consignment store so I can get my kids clothes for cheap! My maiden name is Vermeer -I am 90% Dutch and we Dutch are notorious bargain hunters! I look for great deals whenever I can.
On a personal note, I have been married to Rob for nineteen years and am the mother of two beautiful children, Zach and Lyndsey. My family gives me much inspiration for the stories and articles I write. I am certainly never short on ideas for humor writing!
I like to think of my relationship with Jesus Christ as a work in progress. I am constantly in awe of my Savior and I desperately want to please Him in everything I do. My writing is a way I can honor Him with the skills and talents He placed in me before I was even born. I feel so blessed to be used in this way.
