Retired schoolteacher. Started writing course with Writers Bureau in the United Kingdom. Stopped to give crash course in English to Spanish-speaking students from neighbouring Venezuela. Also taught English to secondary students taking their final year exams.

After acquiring the Cambridge School Certificate, taught as Complementary Teacher in the Trinidad and Tobago Teaching Service, because I was under 18. At 18 I was designated title of Assistant Teacher A long wait to enter Training College allowed me time to study shorthand and typing - obtained the Pitman's Shorthand and Typing Certificates. Played


lead roles in dramatic presentations. Sang solos in concert and in choirs. Good at table tennis and at netball.

Migrated to the U.K. in 1956 without going to training college. Got part as extra in crowd scene in film before starting work at the British Council. Worked there as shorthand/typist, then secretary, in the Education Section of the B.C. Played lead role in play the British Council commissioned the late Edric Connor, film-actor and playwright, to produce for their Xmas concert in December, 1956. It ran for three nights. Married in l957. Gave birth to a son in December 1960. Left work until Octobr 1962. I returned to work at the British Council in the Personnel Dept. I worked there until July 1963 when I got a job at Texaco U.K. Ltd., London in the Shipping Section.

Entered a teachers' training college for mature students in l967. After a three-year course obtained a London University Certificate in Education. Taught in London for three years, after which time I returned to Trinidad. Taught at St. Francois Girls' College (secondary school) for one year. Then for the next sixteen years at a Junior Secon- dary School (Junior High), after which I retired.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
  • Acquired two Mensa certificates - one unsupervised test and the other supervised. Placed in top 5%. Self-taught electronic keyboard.

  • Visited The Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Napoleon's Tomb, Sacre Coeur, Notre Dame Cathedral, Chartres Cathedral, Biarritz,boat ride on the Seine; Palais de Justice, Brussels; San Fermin (the running of the bulls), Pamplona, San Bastian, in Northern Spain; went up the Pyrenees by train; visited Luxembourg and the Swiss lakes, Lucerne and Lugano, passed through the then longest tunnel in the world under the Alps.

  • Visited the Vatican, Sistine Chapel, Trevi Fountain; in Florence the Uffizi Palace, the Statue of David, walked along the Arno River, enjoyed gondola ride in Venice, visited the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi. In Canada experienced 40,000 gals. of water cascading above me, and the genius of the Welland Canal; in the USA went to the 103rd floor of the Twin Towers, Radio City Music Hall, the Capitol and other places of interest.

  • Visited the U.S. on several occasions: Long Is., N.y., New Jersey, Washington,D.C., Pittsburg, Pa., Mullins & Myrtle Beach, S.Carolina., Las Vegas, Laguna HIlls, Ca.
    Avid Reader; Read works by Russian writers; Tolstoy, Turgenev, Chekhov, Dostoyesky. French authors like Zola, Balzac, Sartre, Gide and numerous British and American classics and other sstories.
