Welcome to my Portfolio!
My name is Venice Kichura.
Just as my unusual name, too often I’ve felt my life is different.
Throughout my 57 years God has taken me down out a path that I have oftentimes wondered, What’s up, Lord? Seems like I’ve been down this road before. Why can't I cruise down only carefree streets from now on?
But I’ve also found peace in knowing “God is in control”. Through it all God has continued to grant me peace whenever I've felt clueless as to the direction He was taking me. I’ve found writing to be a great therapy as well as art. I started writing in high school and won a scholarship for a short story I wrote. Unfortunately I changed my major to Education. I’ve spent more than ten years subbing in local public schools. Yep, I’m one of those rare ones who’d rather sub than have my own fulltime classroom. In south Florida I worked with elementary school kids, subbing in classrooms. However, most of my sub jobs in New England (where I spent the past seven years) involved working with mentally and physically challenged students of all ages.
I’ve been married to Ed for the past 34 years and have two grown sons and five grandchildren. We’ve recently retired to the beautiful North Georgia Mountains where I’m finding endless inspiration to both write and paint. Now that I’m retired from subbing, I’m looking forward to fulltime freelance writing.
It’s my desire to glorify my Lord Jesus Christ in everything I do and say.

I've recently moved to the North Georiga Mountains and am setting up my office for freelancing.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- I won a Theta Sigma Phi journalism award for a short story I wrote.
- Graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in English and History.
- Graduated from the Long Ridge Writers correspondence course
- Received five Editors' Choice Placings in the FaithWriters Weekly Challenges and have been published in Faithwriters' books.
Published in both regional, statewide and national publications.
