I also hear them talking about cancer, and treatment, and other scary words. I hope she’s okay. And if anyone’s hurting her, let me at them. They’ll never hurt her again when I’m done with them.
Anyway, back to Emily, my Littlest Little. I usually sleep at the bottom of her bed. I’m not really supposed to, but after a while, the Masters Mom and Dad gave up trying to get me out of there. Every night I go in Emily’s room, hoping she’ll be sleeping in her bed. That maybe she snuck in the house while I was napping. Or that she’ll sneak in during the night. But every morning, her bed is still empty, only rumpled at the bottom where I kept my vigil.
The other littles play with me, and they invite me to their rooms at night, but it’s not the same without all of them here. Sometimes when I go into her room, I’ll hear them sadly tell me, “Sorry, Pebbles. Emily isn’t here. She’s still in the hospital.” But I still go in her room. I’ve got to keep guard for her, and make sure nothing happens to her stuff.
My ears perk up. I hear excited talking.
One of the other Littles, Mason, runs up to me and gives me a big hug. “Guess what, Pebbles? Emily is coming home today! Mom’s driving home with her right now!”
Could it be true? She’s coming home? I hope the doctor gives Emily a treat before she leaves, like the vet gives me. Why aren’t they back yet? Surely it’s been long enough. When are they going to be here? When?
I hear a car pull up. Is it them? The other family members run out the door. I try to nose through, but Dad holds me back. I hope she’ll know how much I missed her. I see her, but... Is it really Emily? Where’s all the fur on top of her head? And what’s the thing she’s wearing on her face?
She walks slowly towards me. “Pebbles! I’ve missed you so much.”
It’s her! It’s really her! My Littlest Little. Home.
Finally, Dad lets go of my collar, and I bound towards her. I nearly knock her over. I’m trying to be gentle. Really, I am. But I just can’t help myself. I try to lick her face through the... whatever it is she’s wearing. Oh, I don’t care. I’m just glad she’s home. Does she know how much I’ve missed her? Huh? Does she? Does she?
“Awww. Pebbles. You’ve missed me, too, haven’t you?”
My only response is a happy bark.

Job 12:7-10
“But ask the animals, and they will teach you,
or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you;
or speak to the earth, and it will teach you,
or let the fish in the sea inform you.
Which of all these does not know
that the hand of the LORD has done this?
In his hand is the life of every creature
and the breath of all mankind.

You do an excellent job of speaking dog. I love the dog's relationship with the cat, as well as his names for his humans.
Excellent job.
