“Ranger Smith! What are you doing here, and what do you want?”
“Ah, boys. Can’t I come to visit my two favorite bears?”
“Look, Ranger Smith. Let’s not pretend we're buddies.”
“Yes, I know. Look, Yogi; I come in peace. I’ve actually brought you two a gift.”
“Oh, I’ll bet, Ranger Smith. The last time you brought us a gift, it was a pair of matching bear traps. I think we’ll pass on whatever you brought this morning. Now, if you’ll excuse us, it’s breakfast time.”
“Well, I don’t want to keep you boys from your breakfast. After all, I know it’s important for you to stock up on food for your upcoming hibernation.”
“Well, yes. We’re actually planning on heading for our dens this afternoon.”
“I’m very familiar with your schedule, Yogi. That’s the reason I’ve brought these gifts."
“What are they?”
“If you’ll take a look in my truck, you’ll see I’ve brought you both an adjustable bed.”
“Why would you bring us beds?”
“Well, to sleep in; of course!”
“But, Ranger Smith… you do know we’re bears, right?”
“Well, of course I do. But you’re getting ready to hibernate, so I thought you might enjoy sleeping in style this winter.”
“Ranger Smith, we’re touched. But bears don’t sleep in beds. We sleep on the ground, in our dens.”
“But, Yogi: you’re not like other bears. So, maybe you can try sleeping in a different way than other bears. You’ll never know until you try.”
“Well, I suppose not. Well… thank you. But… why? Why would you do this for us? You’re always getting angry at us and telling us you wish we lived in any other park. Why give us a present?”
“Look, boys, I’ll level with you. Last winter, while you two were hibernating, I had lots of campers actually stay here longer than a few days. Because they did, I was able to make up for those who leave during the other months. Now, I don’t have to tell you boys why so many campers leave this park during the other seasons, do I?”
“No, Ranger Smith. But, look, a bear’s gotta eat, right?”
“Of course you do. But other bears don’t take so all the picnic baskets as you two so often do. So, I figured if you two had more comfortable beds to sleep in, you might hibernate a bit longer. And, if that happens, I might actually make a decent profit this year.”
“Well, thanks for being honest, Ranger Smith. I guess we could give it a try.”
“That’s all I ask, Yogi. Well, I’ll let you two get back to your breakfasts. I guess I’d better not ask where that food came from, do I?”
“It’s probably best you don’t, Ranger Smith.”
“Yeah, that’s what I thought. Well, boys, have a restful winter. I’ll set these beds up right inside your den, and then set up an outside generator to keep them running all winter. Sleep tight!”
“We’ll do our best, Ranger Smith. Thanks for thinking of us."
“Believe me, boys; it’ll be my pleasure.”

“Well, Boo Boo, it looks like we’ve got ourselves a couple of adjustable beds.”
“That sure was nice of Ranger Smith – wasn’t it, Yogi?”
“I guess so, Boo Boo. I guess I won’t mind sleeping more comfortably this winter.
“That’s for sure, Yogi. Hey, Yogi?”
“What is it, Boo Boo boy?”
“Well, I can see those beds coming in handy for the winter, but what’ll we do with them when spring comes?”
“I’m not sure, Boo Boo. Maybe our friend Rip Van Winkle might have an idea. Let's go talk to him on our way to the den.”
“That’s a great idea. Boy, you’re always thinking Yogi.”
“That I am, Boo Boo. That I am. Well, let’s go eat breakfast. After all, those picnic baskets won’t eat themselves!”
