For tunes of joy and sorrow
With news of what’s been happening
And hope for what’s tomorrow:
“We saw the sonogram today—
Our baby is a girl.
The time cannot come soon enough
To hold our little pearl.”
“He’s gone. He passed away last night.
How will I live without him?
All I can do is walk the floor
And weep and think about him.”
“We finally have sold the house
And have a closing date.
We’re moving closer to you soon,
And we can hardly wait.”
The telephone’s a trumpet played
Through wire and cell tower,
Conveyer of encouragement,
Reminder of God’s power:
“I prayed for you this afternoon
That God would bring you healing
And too, He’d calm your deepest fears,
His love for you revealing.”
The telephone’s a lovers’ flute
To reach from heart to heart,
Connecting them with sweetest words
When they are far apart:
“I’m glad that I can hear your voice.
It’s been a lonely day.
You’ll make my life complete again
When I come home to stay.”
The telephone’s an orchestra
For news and information,
With instruments beyond compare
To carry conversation

Your elegant rhyming poem had such meaning. I thought of writing a poem this week, too, but couldn't come up with a concept.
Well done.
