I like the lesson here; learn to appreciate the older, homemade relics. A cheap imitation has no charm or history behind it, no story. This piece inspires me and really makes me miss my grandfather.

As someone who loves really old items, I could appreciate this entry. I love holding something in my hands that has been held and used by folks for decades or centuries before me.

I love the idea of the family story carved out on the cane and how it gave some perspective to an MC that didn't care for old things or old people. Great character development here, all the way through. I loved how you left us all hanging on the ending, where Clem wonders what will become of his cane when he's gone.

Really nice work!

Enjoyed your 'history lesson.' It wasn't until I was old enough to have a history that I could appreciate it.
