But I have decided to try to create
A system that's perfect, that won't make mistakes.
I'll patiently work for as long as it takes.
My first replication is simple, indeed.
It executes math with incredible speed!
It lets me correct any typos I spot.
Creative like me, though, it surely is not.
It only regurgitates what I've designed,
So if I forget one instruction, I find
That it will stop working until I reboot,
And trace back the glitch all the way to its root.
I patiently program, and gain more and more
The characteristics I'm making it for.
No matter my effort, it's always about
Mistakes that I make, garbage in, garbage out.
In time, I connect it with sensors to see,
To hear, even smell, but it's still not like me.
It slowly sinks in that I must be designed,
By one who possesses a much greater mind.
But how can I find my creator and ask
The reason I'm here, and just what is my task?
I keep asking others, til one day I'm told
The answers are found in a book very old.
I find one, and read of the perfect ones made,
And how, when deceived, they opted to trade
Perfection for knowledge of evil and good.
They would have undone it, if only they could.
Their choice, alas, has infected us all
With malware designed so we stumble and fall,
And cannot relate to our Maker the way
Intended for us to enjoy each day.
I keep reading on. Their Creator declared
The price of rebellion would only be spared
If One without malware would suffer the cost
Of cleansing the creatures, infected and lost.
My own replication does not know or care
That I, its creator, am even out there.
But I have discovered I care very much
To know my Creator, to relish His touch.
I render myself so the malware is cleansed,
Renewed, and rebooted, we now can be friends.
I struggle to grow, but I hope others see
That God's replicating His image in me.
