I miss Sarge. He lived here before Spike. He was a gentleman. Big, quiet, dignified. Our food bowls sat on the same blue mat in the kitchen. We ate side by side as friends. Amigos. Yesterday when he got here, Spike gobbled up his Kibbles and my Fancy Feast, spilling it all of course. They moved my dish to the top of the freezer in the garage. He gets to stay at the blue mat because he's messy.
Sarge never kept me awake at night crying like Spike did last night. Of course, it was Spike's first night here. Maybe I cried a little my first night away from home too. I can't remember that far back. And I can't ask Sarge if I cried then. I sure do miss my amigo.
Sarge didn't run around barking and scaring me like Spike has done since he got here. Of course, I did kamikaze-dive him a few times early on.
Sarge didn't have accidents or make puddles. But I didn't know him when he was a puppy like Spike is now.
Sarge and I took quiet naps together in the sun. Well, truth be told, back at the start of our relationship, I began our nap times by walking on top of him and playing with his tail. He was patient with me, a true amigo.
I really need to get to the litter box. Going out to see if the coast is clear. I can hear Spike crying. It's dark. They must have put him in his box for the night. I can just sneak by unnoticed. Yeah!
That was a relief. Now, to slip back to my hiding place and get some sleep before they release the puppy-monster again in the morning. Almost by him now. I can hear him whimpering. So sad! Just a quick peek inside to see if he's o.k.
Oh, my, don't get so excited! Your nose is cold! Stop whopping my face with your tail! Shhhhhhh! It's only me, the cat. Well, just for a minute, mind you. I'm not going to stay. I'll just hop in over here and sit in this corner for a bit to keep you company. Yawn! It's been a hard day. For you too? Are you afraid? I guess I could curl up and stay for a little while. Hey! If you want company, calm down. Stop walking on top of me. Lie down, for goodness sake. That's better. Are you asleep? Already?! Hmmmm. Maybe you were just lonely, or afraid. But I'm here now. You don't have anything more to worry about. Except that awful name! I think I am going to call you Amigo.
