And sometimes acted very bad,
His mom would ask him to be good—
Whereon he’d promise that he would.
He’d say with his disarming grin,
He’d never act like that again,
But he did.
And then when he became a teen,
With other boys, he did things mean.
His dad would ask him to be good—
Whereon he’d promise that he would.
He’d say with his disarming grin,
He’d never act like that again,
But he did.
As grown-up with a family,
He’d often treat them angrily.
His wife would ask him to be good—
Whereon he’d promise that he would.
He’d say with his disarming grin,
He’d never act like that again,
But he did.
Until one day he gave his heart
To One who’d sought him from the start.
He prayed for God’s help to be good,
Assured by His Word that He would.
He vowed to serve God faithfully
Till life with Him eternally,
And he did.
