A memory drifts by;
I add my teardrops to the flow
As I watch my babies fly.
With pride I see them stretch their wings,
With sorrow, I watch them try
As they give the first of many beats
The first step toward the sky.
My love has brought them to this place,
But love wants them to stay,
To cherish every memory
And not let any stray!
I wish I could retain this moment,
And halt the passing days—
But time keeps dripping through my hands
I can’t hold it at bay—
I wish I could design a dam
To keep the memories in,
But in spite of every wall I build
Gravity will always win!
And so, with tears, I unlock my fingers
To let the memories through,
But know, my child, wherever you fly,
My love will always be with you.
