Often asked this age old question,
When with suffering I meet,
When my prayers rise up unanswered,
Trials lay around my feet.
In the darkness I must trust Him,
When I most feel all alone,
Still I storm the gates of heaven,
Though my spirit moans and groans.
Heaven's grace lies all around me,
Every star that He has named,
Unknown planets speak His power,
Hidden galaxies He's claimed.
Where was I when light was spoken?
Can I cause the rain to fall?
Can I order clouds to darken?
Can I count the stars at all?
All around creation's spoken
Of God's order and design,
Yet I question what He's doing
When He's made this beauty mine?
All creation speaks His power,
All this beauty speaks of love,
Even sparrows aren't abandoned
And each flower clothed above.
With this witness of creation
That in all He has control,
I can lift my puny problems
Knowing He is Lord of all.
For He's promised me His presence,
And He holds me in His hands,
By His love I am encompassed,
What may touch me He commands.
There's no need to fret or question
For the universe He's spanned,
From the day His thought conceived me,
All my moments He has planned.
Through the trials and the troubles,
God has formed this work of clay,
For He's formed a unique vessel
In the Potter's hands I'll stay.
Does God care? How can I doubt it,
Surrounded by such love divine,
Sent His Son that I might know Him,
All He owns He has made mine.
