Tending the soil of your heart,
Watching with joy
As life flourished
And your flowers blossomed
Under my tender care.
It was always my deepest desire
To bring you sunshine,
And see it light up your face
With a smile.
But even the best of farmers
Can’t keep away the drought;
When the dust storms come
My heart aches as I watch
And know I’m not strong enough
To fix your pain.
I wish I was a superhero
Who could direct the winds
Into different channels;
I wish I was a body builder
Who could smash the boulders
Strewn across your fields.
I wish I could heal each scar
With a single touch,
But I am inadequate
To rescue you
From a single predicament.
I cannot change the world,
But I want you to know I’m here for you,
Still planting flowers
In the corner of your heart.
As I hold your hand
Through it all,
The warmth in your eyes tells me
It is enough.
