You are dumb,
So you filled out the paperwork
And fulfilled every expectation,
Sitting life out
In the junkyard.
You’ve turned off your intellect
And watched it get rusty,
Never trusting it
To get you anywhere.
So you live by your instincts instead,
And manage to survive day by day
As you watch your dreams
Wander farther
And farther
Away.
But I want you to know
That I believe in you.
I believe that you are smart
And capable,
In spite of the lies
You’ve been told.
Come with me,
And we’ll scrub the rust away—
We’ll dig beneath the rocks
Which cloud your intellect,
To find the gems beneath—
I’ll help you piece together
The fragments of your heart,
And facilitate the process
As you rebuild your future.
And when you’re good and ready
To chase the dreams that walked away,
I’ll be here applauding you
As I watch you drive
To uncharted lands,
Beyond what you could ever
Imagine.
