Once held images of blossoms
Unwrapping their beauty
In the beauty of spring,
When your feet danced
To the song of hope
And your eyes shone
With the light of passion.
But somewhere along the way
Spring threw her storms
At your heart,
Smashing the images
You saw in the mirror.
Now innocence
And openness
Are no longer virtues
To be embraced,
But jagged pitfalls
To be feared.
When you look in the mirror of your heart
You see a putrid swamp
Coated with oily slime,
And the only signs
Of former years
Are the wrappers and bottles left behind,
Empty and forgotten,
Littering your heart.
You drop out of school
Without a future to build for,
Trashing your dreams
And scrapping your passions,
Drawing yourself a future
In a prison cell,
Not because it is what you want,
But because you believe
It is the only place
In the whole world
A piece of crap like you
Is fit for.
But I am here to tell you
That your mirror is lying—
What I see in your heart
Is a blossom
Wounded from the storms of life,
But beautiful
Beyond anything in this world,
Waiting for another soul
To stop,
And dare to peek inside.
