As a beacon through the centuries;
She offers light to guide the steps
Of all who dare to sail the seas.
A book provides a peephole
To peek into the hearts of old;
What treasures can we harvest there?
Where will we find a glimpse of gold?
In Dickens I find caricatures
Where my own flaws are magnified;
But look a little longer
And hidden virtues are espied—
Montgomery inspires the heart
To set imagination free,
And faith soon follows in her footsteps
As I find the Spirit beckons me—
Through Hugo grace has come alive:
A convict gets a second chance,
And speaks forgiveness to our hearts
From dismal times long gone, in France—
MacDonald warms my heart to God,
As love is captured in each page;
What glimpses of eternity
Are witnessed from another age!
A living book still speaks to us,
Though it was written long ago;
It tantalizes hungry hearts
And lights a spark inside the soul.
