A sign was placed for all to see
In the native tongues of everyone who passed;
‘King of the Jews’, it simply said,
Above His blood-soaked, thorn-crowned head,
Hanging limply now for He had breathed His last.
This testament by pagan hands
Proclaimed to all His native land
It was royalty that died upon that cross;
What did they think who stopped to stare
At their dead King, or did they care?
‘Twas the price He paid for purchasing the lost.
Some mocked and scoffed and called Him names;
“Come down”, they said, to prove His claims—
They were blinded to the mighty work of grace;
Some beat their breasts in sad despair
At their Messiah hanging there—
All their hope had fled and darkness took its place.
But He would put dark death to flight,
In Him they’d find their soul’s delight--
All who would in heart forever crown Him, Lord--
From all the nations they would come
And put their faith in God’s own Son,
The fulfilment of His every written Word.
Signs in our day proliferate,
The truths of Scripture correlate—
We’re awaiting His appearing as He said;
Israel’s back in their own land
As the prophetic words demand—
An essential for the coming Day of dread,
When every Jew on earth will know
The sign decreed so long ago
Will have absolute inauguration then—
Jesus, rejected by His own,
King of the Jews, on David’s throne—
Watch! Behold the King is coming soon! Amen!!
