At others blaring in my face,
Occupies a prime location;
It constantly invades my space,
Incessantly, takes pride of place.
Would manipulate my thinking
With proffered offerings worthwhile
Or stupefy my rationale
With a seductive friendly smile,
Oozing glamour, glitz and style.
The arch-ruler of the airwaves
And prime requirement of the age,
Our main source of information,
Replacing teacher, priest and sage—
New ‘experts’ in a square glass cage.
It’s a one way conversation
Which bombards you with its views,
A most adamant persuader
Hell-bent on choosing how you choose—
How dare anyone refuse!
A commercial institution
With access to every mind—
Free expression’s an illusion
The mighty dollar left behind—
Know by what measure truth’s defined!
Perhaps I’m cynically inclined?
Or maybe a mite unfair?
Perhaps I’d better toe the line?
But there are millions toeing there—
Should we not think outside the square?
Be ever vigilant and wise—
The media like cunning fox
Will new ways and means devise
To raise the value of his stocks—
Think way outside the square glass box!
