Who he would soon become,
When juvenile days are past
And he’s no longer young,
Or teen, at times, considered
Where life would go from here-
Would he stand strong and faithful then,
Should hardship hover near?
Carefree days don’t linger
Beyond a certain point.
Burdens build persistently,
Discourage and annoy.
Childhood days, unfettered,
Restrictions not withstanding,
Give way to daily challenges,
Both trying and demanding.
Grown-ups have the privilege
To choose their way of life.
Grown–up obligations, though,
May fill a day with strife.
Relentless comes each new day
Of joy or awful dread.
Shrouded by the veil of time,
The future looms ahead.
Newly attained freedom
Allures so many hearts,
Rejecting much fine wisdom
The elders would impart.
Family and friends
All hope only the best.
Attaining “your majority”
May be the biggest test.
Character and faith,
Relationships, for sure,
Attitude, and major goals,
Work ethic-make them pure.
For every choice that’s made
Will linger over time,
Touching things you’ll never know,
Impacting other’s climb.
Embrace the best each day,
It fills and satisfies.
Settling for lesser things
Will never do likewise.
Maturity is won
Through choices that are hard-
Diligence and self-less acts
And vigilance on guard.
No regard for others,
When reaching for the prize,
Rarely brings desired joy,
Just sorrow in disguise.
But windows do abound,
Good choices all, for ones
Prepared to show the love of God
With every step they run.
