Bold or timid, sharp or dull, intense or too carefree.
The Master has designed it all, just like a diagram;
Yielding is essential to fulfill the whole program.
Probing every facet, grasping all I could become
Excites, but there are some things I might choose to scurry from.
Not everything will be a snap, though worthy, fun and fine.
Still, dedicated diligence can make a life that shines.
Embracing body, mind and soul, my path I must attend:
Develop my potential just the way that God intends.
The journey has its challenges, but also many joys:
Unique perspective’s just a tool, like others He employs.
Created for a purpose, equipped with all I’ll need;
The only willing soul around prepared to do this deed.
A secret agent’s what I am, ‘cause ‘times I just can’t tell
Which part of quirky me He’s used, or if it all went well.
Physically, no one would know, I look the same as you,
And everything seems fine to me; life’s rosy-never blue.
But some things don’t quite suit, although harmless and discreet,
And affirmation’s not for those who march to their own beat.
Regardless of the pleasure I’ve enjoyed by being me,
The world views me a misfit; disdains what was to be.
Their thorough castigation soon shatters my delusions:
Benign deference from the norm leads only to exclusions.
Subtle or substantial, scorn sanctions solitude.
Joyous freedom’s soon replaced by tendencies to brood.
Shrouds of somber scrutiny surround my sagging soul;
Perceived affronts and thoughtless words soon take a mighty toll.
Succumbing to the stigma of rejection prompts resolve;
I’ll placate them, it can’t be hard, I know what it involves.
They want me to be just like them; to think and act the same,
I’ll make some changes, then they’ll see, I’m ready for their game.
Somehow, though, it isn’t quite as easy as I thought;
It doesn’t seem to work, it doesn’t feel the way it ought.
This mold’s not made for one like me, it’s just a deadly trap
‘cause forcing makes me feel as though I’m surely going to snap.
My futile efforts turn me back; in shame I see my Lord
Extend a hand to draw me close, restoring our accord.
Enveloped in His arms of love, relief and gratitude
Remind of God’s best plan for me, and all that will include.
My God-ordained place in this world He made clear from the start.
Peculiarities and all, He’s chosen every part.
Just a nudge snaps me in place, I fit just like a glove,
My custom built abiding place, formed by His heart of love.
