Hi. I’m Joe. Joe McNeal. I grew up in a little town called Vicksburg. In the middle of town there’s one stop sign where two roads come together. That’s where the motel used to be when the stagecoaches went through.
I grew up on the side of the railroad tracks with the grain elevator. My parents were good people, but they didn’t know about religion or anything like that. Now I’m fifty-five. I live in an apartment in the city about ten miles from Vicksburg.
Last week my friend Sam and I were out on scaffolds fixing the barn roof. It was icy and really slick up there, and Sam kept praying under his breath. When we got back on the ground we were both shaking from being so tense up there.
That day Sam asked me if I wanted to go to see a Christmas nativity with live donkeys and camels and everything. I figured, why not, he’s a good guy to hang around with. So we went.
That night at the nativity something happened. I’ve thought about Jesus ever since. I even prayed today and asked Him to be Lord of my life – something I saw happen on TV a long time ago. I don’t know if I should tell Sam or not. Maybe someday I will.

My name’s Cecilia. I’m seventy-seven years old, but who counts years! I agree with Emily Dickenson: “We grow not older with years but newer every day.”
Let me tell you a little about my past. My father was an alcoholic and my mother danced at the bar downtown. Love wasn’t part of my life. I was afraid most of the time.
Then Raymond swept me off my feet. We eloped when I was fifteen and he was twenty! Ray had known Jesus forever! He was different; I could trust him totally. Not long after our elopement I found myself at the altar of his church giving MY heart to Jesus, the ultimate Lover of my soul.
Here’s something interesting about me. The year I got shot in a restaurant parking lot by a gang of teenagers I learned a lot. The doctor said if I’d not changed my mind at the last minute, and worn those high-heeled shoes, the bullet would have gone right thorough my heart! But the big thing is that God gave me the ability to forgive those boys, and rely on Him for strength to recover and live beyond fear.
Tomorrow I’m planning to take a meal to Rhonda, who is bedridden. I’ll stay awhile and visit. She’s awfully lonely these days.

Hello, this is Harold Starks here. I’m married to the prettiest girl in town – her name’s Sharon – and I’ve spent the last eight years as a newspaper reporter for the Brownstown Journal.
But that’s not how I define myself. That’s just my job! No, I think of myself first and foremost a disciple of Jesus Christ. It’s always been that way, for as long as I can remember. My parents taught me to recite Bible verses and pray when I was just a little kid … and when I was around ten I went up front during an altar call one morning at church.
Ever since that day life’s been all about trusting Jesus. Sure, I have my moments when I get frustrated or impatient, angry or worried – but through it all there’s this sense that God is in control. I can’t really explain it, but I guess that’s what the Bible means by the “peace that passes understanding.”
I hope to author a book someday; I love to write! I have a lot I’d like to say about hope and childlikeness when we live life from the perspective of faith in our Lord Jesus.

Hi, my name is Bethany Fairchild. I had my fifteenth birthday last week, and I go to East Middlebury High School. My favorite things are pizza and instant messaging with friends on the computer.
I’m not shy – can you tell?! I reeeeealy like parties!
There’s one thing that makes me different than some of the people I hang out with, though. I accepted Christ last year when I was going to youth group with a friend. I’m excited because I know He’s the One who will make sense out of all the crazy stuff going on in the world today.
Better get going … I’m supposed to meet Marianne at the mall!
