"What is it?" Elam asked.
"Old man Noah. He's building something out of cypress wood. He says it's a ship of some sort."
"A ship? Oh, that's a laugh. What's Noah going to tell us next? That he's going to live in the ship?"
Noah walked up behind them. "Actually, yes."
"Oh, um... Hi, Noah! Lovely day today, isn't it?" Elam muttered embarrassedly.
"Yes. A lovely day for building my ship."
"Okay, Noah, I have to ask. Why are you building, of all things, a ship?" Amari inquired.
"Well, the Lord has told me to build it. He told me there was going to be a flood."
"Oh, that's right. I forgot. You have a connection with God, don't you?" Elam mocked, poking Amari in the ribs.
"Did you remember to ask God what a 'flood' was?" Amari chortled.
"Well, let's put two and two together, shall we?" Noah asked. "I'm building a ship. Ships move on water. The obvious conclusion then, would be that a flood has something to do with water."
"Riiight. Whatever, Noah. We'll let you go back to building your 'ship' to prepare for this 'flood,'" Elam exclaimed, while making quotation marks with his fingers. "Make sure you tell us what else God tells you with this 'special connection.'"
As Elam and Amari walked away laughing, Noah offered a simple prayer to God. "Father, let them see the truth before it's too late."
As the days went on, Noah continued to be the laughing stock of the civilized world. And the uncivilized world. "What has God told you to do now?" one jeered.
"To put two of every unclean animal, seven of every clean animal, and seven of all birds on the ark," Noah explained, ignoring the jeers. "I really would repent of your evil ways if I were you," he advised, pointed to his countdown sign. "Seven days until God brings judgement upon the earth!" the sign read.
Soon, the crowd made a sign of their own. Seven days until Noah is proven wrong.
"We'll see," Noah replied. "Or, rather, I'll see."
Seven days later, the crowd once again gathered as Noah and his family boarded the ark. "Bye, Noah! We'll miss you. NOT!" Amari replied, rousing the crowd. "Have all of you heard what's going to happen? The whole earth is going to be covered in water," He lamented, in mock terror. "Whatever are we going to do? Hey, Noah, just how will the earth be covered in water? Are the streams and rivers just going to rise up? Are they going to overflow?"
"Oooo, I've got it, Amari. Water is going to just fall from the sky!" Elam chimed in.
"Oh, that's a good one, Elam." Amari exclaimed, between the laughter. "We'll have so much fun laughing at you when you come out, Noah.
Noah shook his head in disgust as he stepped inside the ark. The door slammed shut as thunder ripped through air.
"What was that?" Amari cried, leaping into Elam's arms.
"It was just the door," Elam explained in disgust as he dropped Amari to the floor. Another peal of thunder shot across the darkening sky. "No it wasn't," Elam whimpered, as he cowered down beside his friend.
"Hey, stop spitting on me," Amari accused.
"It wasn't me!"
Frightened, Elam and Amari ran up to the ark and started banging on wood. "Uh, Noah, you know we were just kidding, right?" Amari chuckled.
"We didn't really mean all of that stuff we said," Elam agreed. "Come on, Noah. Let us in. Doesn't your God want you to love your neighbor?" They waited, as the rain began to fall harder. "Okay, Noah. This isn't funny anymore. We'll help you take care of the animals."
"Yeah. We'll even clean up the elephant droppings," Amari offered. "Please let us in," he pleaded.
The water was rising at an alarming rate. All around them Amari and Elam hear people screaming.
"Noah? Noah?" Amari and Elam continued to cry out to Noah, but they were greeted only by the sounds of the thunder and rain, Noah's silence, and the silence of God.

Based on Genesis 6 and 7
Many people believe Noah's flood was the first time it rained on earth.
