TITLE: Between the Dream and Dawn | Previous Challenge Entry

and waking ache of dawn,
I struggle, wrenching my blurred mind
from sleep’s still clinging arms.
Voices echo dull within.
They in the dream still live,
and I can feel the urge to sink
into that dream again.
The dark command to enter back
into deep worlds once more
calls from the shadows of night’s realm
where voices still implore.
Yet when I ease into its hold
I feel I’ve lost my way,
for other voices call me out
into the light of day.
Between the land of scattered dreams
and shores of dazzling dawn,
I stumble, staggering into thought
where consciousness is born.
A maze, a whirl of dark and light,
I’m pulled into a spin.
It leaves me fumbling in my thoughts
of what and where I’ve been.
Eyes sting awake, a yawn, a stretch,
and night mist yields to sun.
Night slithers into shadows
as the brilliant day is come.
Were it not for the warm sunrise
that draws me to the light,
I’d stay content in darkened dreams
that hold me in the night.
Were it not for the dawn’s first rays
that shake me from the shade,
I’d still be caught in unreal worlds
where shadows play the stage.
Some day true Morning’s great Sun King
will blaze away earth’s haze,
and no more will Night’s phantom wings
obscure His Day of Praise.
All earth will see the Sunrise fair.
Confusion then will end,
as Night falls to eternal depths
ne’er to be felt again.
Glad earth and heaven then will dance,
pure celebration raise,
for no more will doubt be allowed
to shade the Son’s dear face.
