A lament for the named and un-named women who have fallen victim to evil men. Murdered, mutilated, raped, enslaved: their agony climbs to heaven. And is heard.
Hagar
Requisitioned womb –
Bitter slave of owners’ drive.
Cheap commodity.
Jephthah’s daughter
Sixty days to weep –
Floods the hills with virgin grief.
Child of folly's vow.
The Levite’s concubine
Nameless surrogate –
Slain by cowardice and vice.
Useful still, though dead.
Michal
Voiceless toy of kings –
Expediency’s puppet.
Pass-the-parcel wife.
Tamar
Meat to Amnon’s greed -
Tossed aside like well-chewed bones.
Ruined, loveless, lost.
The others
Hundreds, thousands more –
Suburb, slum or throne-room bound.
Lust and power’s dolls.
Come, Lord Jesus, come –
Sound the note of Jubilee.
Dry your children’s tears.
No more mourning, then –
Banish weeping, death and pain.
Come, Lord Jesus, come.

Hagar: Genesis 16
Jephthah’s daughter: Judges 11
The Levite’s concubine: Judges 19
Michal: 1 Samuel 18, 2 Samuel 3

I wonder if a less modern expression could be used for "pass-the-parcel wife." To me it detracted very slightly from the majesty of the whole. But that's only my preference. Very creatively done.
