As a small child I learned to sew.
We all know
A lacing card
Is not so hard!
But some years later came Home Ec.
Up to my neck
In ripper work,
I went berserk.
It seemed “the thing” to make my clothes.
My dress with bows
Had gathers where
They left me … bare!
The years went by and I sewed hard.
I stayed on guard
As lots of flops
Came without stops.
Then one day it occurred to me.
“I need to flee
This old machine
For a new dream!”
Right then I pondered at my fate.
“It’s not too late
To stitch by hand
Something quite grand.”
I looked in drawers and found the kit.
A simple bit
To stitch and shape
A scarf or cape!
With skill I poked and pulled with ease.
This was a breeze
Compared to those
Past sewing woes.
When I was done I laughed with glee.
For here, you see,
Was something rare
Beyond compare!
I’d stitched those lacing cards with care.
I proudly stared
At my success
And took a rest.
