She arrived unexpectedly, a foreign-speaking visitor with an agenda promising to restore tragic losses resulting from decades of battle.
At first she was misunderstood and largely unnoticed. Unfortunately her modest, unpretentious demeanor hardly inspired confidence. Why would she be effective in bringing wholeness to such ravaged desolation? Overshadowed by the clamor of continuing guerilla warfare, she knew to wait for the right opportunity. And so she quietly lived amidst the clamor, eager to share her gracious message whenever the time was right.
After quite a few years her demeanor - her simple presence - had made a subtle and yet noticeable difference, even without any overt involvement. While despair continued to trample dreams and flatten remaining shreds of optimism with steamroller force, her own trusting and encouraging confidence lifted weariness and enabled hope.
Because of this subliminal influence, she gradually gained acceptance. Then one day she was invited to tiptoe through the most dangerous minefield - the most terrifying place of all - and right into the very hotbed where pride and fear consumed absolutely everything! Could she dare to confront such intensely warring factions?
Standing tall with an air of unmistakable authenticity, she began her ministry of renewal in earnest. She boldly shared what it could be like to demolish lies and craft new foundations based on Truth; what it could be like to recreate vibrant relationships from wounded, crippled ones; what it could be like to openly and extravagantly trust the Giver of Life.
Almost instantaneously this vision for recovery and wholeness spread like a contagious wildfire. Weapons on every side fell to the ground and white flags waved from behind protective bunkers.
This missionary named Hope was sent to me by God to minister to my broken and battered heart. She is hard at work today combing my internal terrain, delivering supernatural healing, and empowering confidence in the One who sent her.
