As he tried to blend in with the rest
His short crooked frame stood out
From the people in the world and room
His face horribly scarred and twisted
As he watched the beautiful people
He stood in the corner silent and mute
Far from the people in the world and room
He dreaded the gathering each year
As he tried to blend in with the rest
His short crooked frame stood out
From the people in the world and room
Eyes tried to avoid contact with him
As he slowly consumed his pile of food
The buzz of laughter and chatter shut him out
Far from the people in the world and room
Perfect white sheep wherever he looked
As he tried to blend in with the herd
His eyes blinked away hot burning tears
Far from the people in the world and room
The sincerity of their words severely lacked
The empathy of which they tried to impact
The world of beauty and perfection belong
To all but one in the world and the room
He wondered what it felt like to be loved
As he longed to be one of the beautiful
To be able to laugh speak and stand tall
Close to all the people in the world and room
He left early and slowly walked home
As he sat crying on his couch far from
The gathering and laughter and eyes of scorn
His heart stopped beating his pain no more
Far from all the people in the world
He stood tall as he walked through many rooms
The loving Shepherd welcomed him home
As he stood with Jesus—a black sheep no more
