I write this note to you,
You who have etched your name
In my memory,
Leaving scars that don’t fade.

What compelled you to be funny?
Sprinkling paper confetti upon my head
With butterfly fingers so I wouldn’t notice;
When I stood to leave the bus,
And white dots rained off my hair,
You laughed and said,
“Ew, she’s got cooties!”

I write this note to you,
You who shared in the shaping
And shattering of my self-image,
Brittle in those elementary years.
You called me Olive Oil;
Noodles; flat as a board;
The ghost…
And I was; I became invisible.

I write this note to you,
You who consumed my innocence,
Who took my hand,
Escorting me to the dance;
I was beautiful, for a day;
The satin gown I sewed shimmered
Like water under the stars;
Your sweet words caressed my soul,
Made me feel wanted, special,
Yet you never called again.

I write this note to you,
You who is me—
Who listened to the lies
Whispered in the darkness,
Telling me I was worthless,
That I failed;
Each mistake I made cracked my porcelain shell.

I take this note to you
And crumple it
In the tightest ball;
As the Lord reaches down from on high
To take hold of me,
I pass it to him,
To His scarred hands,
To heal my scars,
And toss this note into the dancing embers,
Never to be remembered again.

You are forgiven.

And I write a new note
To you who cared,
Who smiled and laughed with me,
Who radiated the joy I starved for,
And taught me to forgive;
Your friendship led me
Out of my lonely cave
To life.

I write this note to you,
You who loves me
As I am
And sees who
I will be;
Who didn’t forget me,
But etched my name
In Your book, never to fade;
Forever I am whole.

Very well written. I like the simplicity of the lines, the deep emotion expressed, the victorious ending. Good job!

Just beautiful. God's gift of forgiveness is so amazing, we can't help help but give it to others.

This was so masterful and sensitive! It was so effective the way you used the idea of the note repetitively, even relentlessly, to write to different people, then to yourself, crumpled it all up, wrote your note to Him, and then finished with the book of life, the heavenly note that cancels out all notes.I think we could all feel the pain in some of the lines.Some wonderful lines eg'each mistake I made cracked my porcelain shell'.I think every sixteen year old should be given this to read.
