But what can I do?
A poor inconsequential,
a keep-quiet seller
in the market.
For he pulls the strings,
he sets the price,
he measures the grain,
he fiddles the price.
The usual day, overworked again.
But what can I do?
A small unsubstantial,
a no-power fellow
in the town.
With quick slight of hand
he changes the weights,
heavy ones when he buys
but light when he sells.
The usual ploy, taken for a fool.
But what can I do?
A man with a family,
a treat-right husband
of a wife.
I've toiled many hours,
brought fresh olives in
to barter for grain,
to fill bellies up.
The usual way, keeping wolf from door.
But what can I do?
Bring justice, O Yahweh,
for hard-work people
in our land.
You hate dirty tricks,
false measures and weights,
injustice, deceit.
Will you set things right?
In your holy plan, right prevails.
We commit it to you.
As rivers roll on, justice comes,
a never-fail stream,
righteousness.
The aggrieved will rejoice,
sing praise to our God,
as you measure out
your sweet loving care.

Amos 5:24 (NIV) But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!
