Our baby nation is like an ocean
Birthing oysters.
Each given a grain of sand
To learn faith and freedom.

A pearl in each
Made beautiful by irritation,
Shining with accomplishment,
Borne of sweat and tears.

Joy comes with the sun
Each day that toil is wrought
By grace, then a rest comes
With satisfaction.

Families strong.
Boundaries secure.
Trusting the privilege
To worship the One.

But some have chosen
a pebble-less shell-

The promise of a free ride.
No work but all needs met.
Everything permitted,
Nothing off limits or wrong.

Babies swept under the rug.
A level shore for all.
Everything given and shared alike,
No questions asked.

Like pet animals ,
Mouths opened for crumbs.
Compliance earns a
Scratch behind the ear.

Those that cling
To hard won faith
And freedom strain,
Put out even more.

Their pearl grows
In hostile waters,
But one day when the
Pebble free oyster is pressured open-

Nothing.

This is an intense piece. You say so much in this well-written piece of poetry. How true your words are.

Amazing imagery - and a perfect ending. Very nicely done.
