I open my closet
To view the choices hanging there,
I sigh…oh my… nothing new…
dressy navy, black and gray,
purples, softly pastel and richly dark,
sensible kaki tan, burgundy stripe,
a splash of pink
and always, always comfortable blue.

So sensible, so practical, so very me.

And I wonder… would I dare to wear God’s colors?


I open God’s closet
To view October hanging there,
I cry…oh my! How glorious the hue!

brilliant color clamors for my attention,
leaves etched against crisp, clear blue—
bold golds, daring reds,
splash of orange nearly shocking,

zinnias bravely blooming, death mocking
stylish magenta, perky pink, pumpkin orange,
mums stand shoulder to shoulder like mounded jewels—
rich scarlet, royal purple, sunshiny yellow…



October calls! October calls!

Quickly, quickly, I don my comfortable blues,
So sensible, so practical, so very me
To run out and embrace the bold, the bright, the beautiful
The daring, the shocking—

So very, very God!

I liked this piece. I could totally relate to the MC. This year, especially I noticed the colors on the trees. I don't think I've ever seen so many hues from red to purple and orange. it was beautiful. Good job.

I am a person who LOVES color, so I could really appreciate your piece! You had some nicely descriptive phrases, such as "Mums stand shoulder to shoulder like mounded jewels." I also liked the line, "I opened God's closet and saw October hanging there."
