lingering almost lost in the mist of distant memories,
when the bob-o-links called to me from McAllister’s Field
and the scent of lilacs was carried upon the soft and summer breeze.
ah, there was a time
when the waters of Barney’s River brought forth laughter in their dance
and the barn owls filled the moonlight with solemn, mystic voice.
ah, there was a time

and the willow whispered sonnets when the winds passed through her skirts.

and the maple trees on Gordon’s Lane, they always walked me home.
ah, there was a time,
there surely was a time,
when all the world was as Gospel choir
and the Lord did preach to me, oh so deep and clear.
