When the elevator doors opened, I was not prepared for the handsome prince of a guy standing there so cute and vulnerable, holding onto a single rose for dear life. A room full of the things would not have been nearly as effective in grabbing my heart. My decision to meet in public was part of my strict blind-dating protocol. It mattered not that we were supposedly matched by some sophisticated, scientific technology that advertised itself as so successful it caused couples to run to the altar to make a vow.
That first date lasted four hours but seemed like four minutes. We found so many things in common to talk about; we just couldn’t seem to stop. The shimmer of her hair, the way she laughed, her beautiful eyes gazing at me as if I were on a white horse come to rescue her…all mesmerized me. Could this be the one?
The time went so fast. He walked me to my car but seemed reluctant to leave. Without meaning to go too far too soon, I gave him a quick hug. His smile made me tingle all over. I prayed for strength to leave. When I got home, there was a poem on my computer and an endearing voice mail from him. I’m not sure if my feet touched the floor for days.
This special woman was obviously made of great character and integrity. I did not know females like her even existed, except in fairytales. Each time we met, she became more important to me. When I finally got up the nerve to hold her hand, the feeling was so wonderful I was sure that would be all I would ever need, but the more I was around her, the more I knew I was a goner. I truly loved this girl.
I had never met a man like him. He was every single thing I could possibly imagine wanting in a mate. His undivided attention wrapped around me like a warm blanket and I felt so safe and sure. The engagement ring was a complete surprise. Of course I said yes…what else could I say? I truly loved this guy.
In retrospect, the wedding is a blur. I do know she looked every inch the princess floating down the aisle in that amazing white satin creation. There was something about some cake and punch and some gifts, but the next thing I knew, I was back at work and she was cooking supper. I remember thinking I was the happiest man on earth.
The wedding was the perfect culmination of all my careful planning. He looked like Prince Charming in his tuxedo as I walked down the aisle and into his life. The ceremony was over almost before it had begun, and then it seemed like I was always waiting for him to come home for supper. Sometimes misunderstanding has a way of acting like a relative who over-stays his visit. We had a spat. I was devastated.
Women! What is it with them? She’s so cold. I wanted a mate, a best friend, a lover. I already have a mother.
Men! I just don’t understand. Where is the prince I married? He’s so cold. I need my sweetheart back. I already have a father.

Things have gotten way out of control. Her coolness to me makes me cool to her, which finally turns the whole atmosphere to ice. I hate it. Today I brought her a rose. She went in the bathroom and cried.
Yesterday, he brought me a rose. I wept. When I came out to find him, he was on his knees—weeping too. I joined him. We prayed.
She’s the most wonderful woman on the face of the earth. She’s the wife of my dreams. (She says she still loves me).
He is a precious man—the husband of my dreams. (He says he still loves me).
