I’ve traveled over the ocean, but not by
ship or plane,
but, rather words and music have
tantalized my brain.
I’ve wandered the streets of London with
Dickens and “The Bard”,
solved crimes and visited castles with
Holmes and Scotland Yard.
Upon the windswept moors I’ve stood with lovely
Miss Jane Austen,
and traveled from Cornwall to Yorkshire with
James Herriot and Rosamund Pilcher.
To the Celtic Lands I’ve roamed from
Dublin up to Glasgow,
I’ve laughed at the antics of leprechauns,
giants, fairies, and wee folk.
On the wings of words I’ve flown to
fantasy worlds unknown,
with Lewis Carroll, A. A. Milne, and
R. L. Stevenson.
The skirling of the bagpipe, the flute,
and the violin,
the haunting “Songs of the Hebrides” all lift
my heart within.
Maybe one day I’ll cross the sea to cities,
lochs, and moors,
to the authors and poets I give my thanks who’ve
helped my mind to soar!
