You told me that you loved me,
For my soul you were concerned,
You quoted scripture every day
In the hopes that I would learn

About this God you claim to serve,
That my heart to Him Iíd give.
So I began to watch you
To see how you really live.

I watched you in the office
Barely doing whatís required
And working only hard enough
To keep from getting fired.

You laughed at all those dirty jokes
While on your coffee break.
I looked again and it was youÖ
There was no mistake.

In the parking lot, I saw you
Make a gesture with your hand
That I could not help but notice
Seemed deliberate and planned.

I could hear that vile DJ
From your car as you drove by,
Then I saw you laugh along with him,
A certain gleam in your eye.

I watched you at the restaurant,
Angry to have to wait,
Then complaining loud and long about
Every single thing on your plate.

I saw you light that cigarette
And order another beer
And when the server smiled at you,
Your flirting was quite clear.

In the grocery store the cashier
Got a real piece of your mind
For something out of her control,
Your words far less than kind.

So I began to think about
The way you live each day
And wondered if your God would think
This lifestyle was okay.

Each action in itself would not
Condemn a soul to Hell,
But all combined, the story
Of a Christian they donít tell.

Then I saw you walk into your church
And right before my eyes,
A transformation happened that
All common sense defies.

The lips that were so angry
And spouting nasty words
Now sang ĎAmazing Graceí in
Humble reverence to the Lord.

Hands that signaled lewdness were
Now raised in praise to Him
And readily applauded the
Total banishment of sin.

I watched this curious display
For just a little while
And when Iíd finally had enough,
Left quickly down the aisle.

I made sure that I left the place
Before the altar call,
Because if you are the example,
Then I donít want this at all.

So, no thank you to your invite
And no matter how I feel,
If I ever need a savior, Iíll look
Elsewhere for something real.

How cleverly you portrayed a hypocrite. May God help us to show by our actions that we love Him. I thought your transition from "sinner to saint" was excellently done. My mom always told me, "You have to be very, very small to hide behind a hypocrite."

A sad commentary on what is all too common. Excellent message.

Well done! This is a great reminder that at Christians, our actions need to match our words. A sad indictment, but it happens so often. Very well written.

Beautifully written and makes the reader think about the daily life and that we never know who is watching us. We are ambassadors of Jesus everywhere in everything we do.
