No, seriously. What is of this world you may be striving, or starving, for? What is foremost in your mind that captures the largest percent of your waking thoughts?
More money? More power? A Mercedes S600? A better position at your job? A better job? To retire?
Maybe, (ouch, this one might sting a bit- it does me) writing the next best seller?
According to scripture, as a Christian the foremost thoughts and efforts should be on Christ and the work he commissioned to all His followers- take the good news about His salvation and mercy and grace to all people of this planet.
Not long ago I watched as some toddlers were playing. Two were working furiously to fill their respective plastic truck with sand then shove it two feet, apparently to see who could make a bigger pile of it.
Another was attempting to place a rock which was half as big as he on top of a larger rock.
What really got to me was after each had accomplished his task he looked satisfied and bragged to the others as to what he had just done.
They may have been having a good time, but in the grand scheme of the universe what they had accomplished? I smiled, but thought, what a waste of time and energy.
Then I wondered if this is how the Father looks at me, at a lot of His children- wasting precious time and energy on something that is very important to us at the time, but means absolutely zip, nada, to his plans for us.
Don’t get me wrong, I still hope (and pray) that some day I might write a best selling novel, but I am re-prioritizing a few things.
Matthew 6:20, "20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
