Arrive at work. Enter a three-digit access code to unlock office area. Control/alt/delete and my computer springs to life. Type in user ID and password. The LAN (Local Area Network) is engaged. Next, I check e-mail but not before I enter a different password.
Time to enter the mainframe network. Another user ID, another password. I pass go again.
To gain access to the data library I punch in the required user ID and password.
Hang in here with me, I know this is getting tedious but I’m leading up to something.
To access documents from other jurisdictions, you guessed it, user ID and password required. Then each individual state has its own password. But if I’m really to get any work done I need to get into FileNet which is inaccessible without another ID and password. Open-sesame.
I see my phone is blinking. Someone called while I was busy typing passwords. To retrieve that message I enter my…finish the sentence for me.
Have to make a trip to the copy machine. To get the machine to spit copies out I punch my secret access code.
The boss tells me I have to go into the Technology Learning Manager to read up on a module and then take the test. Password time.
How did our world ever get this way?
Time to go home but not before accounting for all the work I did today when I wasn’t busy entering passwords. I pull the Activity Log screen up but can’t go any further until I enter my….all together now!
If case you’re wondering how I keep all 20 passwords straight, I don’t. I have a MASTER PASSWORD FILE on my personal “F” drive. I use this as my electronic reference tool all day long. Memorizing these passwords is out of the question because the computer is always prompting me to change my passwords. For security, you understand.
Most of the passwords have to be eight characters long. Some must begin with a capital letter. Others must be all small letters. The Lotus Notes password must be the same as the LAN password. Most of the passwords have to have at least one special character and at least two numbers. The sequence must be exact at all levels to gain access into my locked computer.
It’s a wonder I get any work done, isn't it?
I was recently bemoaning all this password business with my husband, who can certainly emphasize because he has his own unique headaches with pesky persnickety passwords.
But our moods changed dramatically when talk turned to the Lord, because there’s coming a time when our God will not only wipe away every tear, but every password as well. These former things will have passed away. We will have total and complete rest from silly passwords!
You and I will need one Password to access our eternal home. Only one. And Father God will never, ever change His Password. Revelations 22:4 says that this very special Password will even be written on our foreheads.
It’s uncomplicated.
It’s wonderful.

I live in the same technilogical jungle and I also have a password file. Sigh. I liked your point (but it took a little long to get there). I like the casual voice.
