God’s right, you are guilty of sin
But not for the bite of the apple
I can understand why you gave in
The serpent had truly confused you
Undermining the truth you had known
Eroding the things you weren’t sure of
Like a dog that is gnawing a bone
The fruit held such promise of knowledge
“Eat it, like God, you’ll become.
“Die? Never!” promised the serpent
To his lies you began to succumb
Was it sweet on the tongue or quite bitter?
Disobedience staining your heart?
When did you start to acknowledge
That your world was tearing apart?
Innocence vanished so quickly
You’d moved to the enemy’s side
Your friendship with God was now shattered
You were lost, with nowhere to hide
Your next act really condemns you
A selfish and terrible thing
You offered the fruit to your husband
Knowing the hurt it would bring
You knew you had lost your position
That peace in your life was no more
But Adam’s heart was unsullied
A truth that you chose to ignore
Where was the love you had nurtured
As you held out the fruit in your hand
Watching his face as you severed
This man from the future God planned?
Why were your actions so selfish?
Was a river of fear flooding through?
Did you think that you would feel better
If Adam had disobeyed too?
I know that Adam’s responsible
That he had his own part to play
Turning his back on his Father
He made his own choice that day
Like a stone that’s dropped in the water
The ripples extend far and wide
Your actions closed Eden forever
Leaving us shivering outside
Hope is not lost. There’s an answer
Another showed true selfless love
His sacrifice opened a doorway
To the heavenlies with God above.
As I think and reflect on your actions
Would I have done just the same?
My actions have caused hurt to others
I really have no one to blame.
