Those purposes have included dream vacations, work-related events or the mere fulfillment of Bedouin tendencies.
However two-thousand years ago, on his way to Damascus, Saul of Roman and Jewish descent had definite plans to fulfill a dire purpose; murder. His intended plan to squash a perceived blasphemous rebellion resulted in the penultimate unintended outcome. Saul met Jesus.
Ruthless, independent and proud, Saul of Tarsus, couldn’t have imagined his plan would result in his own blindness. After being blinded, Saul was led to the place where his original intent was to do harm. He was embraced by the strangers of the rebellion, his sight restored and he was renamed, Paul.
Paul’s best-laid plan changed; his specific purpose forever altered.
Jesus’ perfect plan for Paul rerouted him to a changed life for the glory of God.
Paul’s changed life story has been one of the most perfect examples of the beauty of unintended outcomes of a sojourner with a best-laid plan.
Despite our plans and purposes we must thank our Savior for delays, losses and our momentary tantrums.
Without these unintended outcomes, our individual routes to Damascus couldn’t result in His specific purpose; our changed lives for Him.
