Topic: I SURRENDER ALL (to God) (don’t write about the song) (05/07/15)
“Take my mind,” she cries. “I can’t handle it alone.” Her knees are hurting; she’s been there so long. The handkerchief borrowed from her husband’s drawer is sodden.

Darkness presses down, the darkness which has been her companion for months. Who knows how she has managed the daily routines of life, pretending all is well when only she knows her inner torment.

How did this start? Why has she been so stupid? Oh, she knew her sin well enough, but how did she let this guilt get so embedded? Why has she waited so long to ask for help?

I’ll call my husband and get him to take me to a psychiatrist, she had thought an hour earlier. But on her way to the phone a thought struck her. What can a psychiatrist do that God can’t?

“Lord, take my mind,” she begs again in total surrender, and waits until her sobs are spent. A quietness and peace come over her. She washes her face and walks to meet her children from school.

Slowly, gently God begins his work of healing. It doesn’t happen all at once. She recalls a grief recovery graph learned in one of her social work classes. The upwards climb is not a straight line, but full of ups and downs. But as long as each up is a little more up than the one before and the downs not so far down as earlier dips, then there is progress. She finds this to be true.

Whenever her mind threatens to spin out of control she reminds herself, I have given my mind to God, it is not my own, and peace returns.

A few months later she knows she is well again. Sitting at the table while doing the ironing she plays her favorite song from Joni Eareckson, Take My Life and Let it Be.
The words have special meaning; take my life, take my moments and my days, take my hands, my feet, my voice. And then she adds her own.

“Thank you, Lord, for taking my mind. I am no longer my own. Thank you Lord for taking all of me.”

We feel the woman's pain in this gut wrenching story. Good job - hope you do well in the Challenge.

I like this. You had me wondering what was going on the first time she cried out "Take my mind!"

A small formatting note: It's best to put thoughts in italics. Most people are familiar enough with that format, and then you don't have to say "She thought."

Nice job with this.
