“Dear Lord, please let someone find me. I don’t want to die, not like this. I want to see my children and husband again. You seem so far away; where is my angel? Please don’t let this man hurt me again – please. Thank you God for my family. Please be with them now and comfort them. They must be so worried about me. Amen.”
I can’t see anything because of this nasty blindfold around my head and my wrists hurt so badly from where he has them tied. Somewhere in the room is a cat because I can hear it purring. The purring is getting louder. What a comforting feeling this cat has caused for me. It curls up next to me and goes to sleep for a few minutes still softly purring. I daze in and out of sleep myself. My wrists must be bleeding because the cat is behind me now licking them. Its scratchy tongue feels good against my skin. It feels like it is nibbling and tugging on the cords that have me bound. The cords are getting loose and eventually I can get my hands free and remove my blindfold.
The cat hops in my lap as I sit here trying to get my bearings straight. This room is sparsely furnished. There is only the bed I am sitting on, a chair and a desk. I look around for a phone or my purse but neither is found. I find my clothes and put them on. I’m so bruised and this man has touched me in ways that would make husband want to kill him with his bare hands. My clothes are so painful on my battered body. The cat is now over by the door meowing to go outside.
“I want to leave too, Kitty.” I unlock the door and open it hoping that I will step outside and see other houses I can run to for help or a car that I can drive away but there is none. I am deep in the woods. The cat is bathing itself in the middle of a narrow gravel road but stops to look at me and meow again. It’s as though it wants me to follow it. I start walking down the road with the cat by my side. I worry this man will come back down the road and see me so I contemplate going into the woods but I worry then I’ll get lost. I continue on the road for a few more minutes until I hear a dog barking up ahead. There in the middle of the road is a yellow labrador with a bandana around his neck. He is sitting there just barking at me but doesn’t seem mean. He is wagging his tail and jumping up and down like he is excited to see me. I look around for the cat but he is nowhere to be found now.
My pace quickens as the dog starts to walk away. I follow him into the woods and along a narrow trail. The trail leads us through a deep woodland area until we finally come to clearing. The dog runs into the clearing and gets in the deep grass. I cannot see him anymore but I know he is still there. I look around and run into the deep grass too. I keep running and running. I can’t see the dog anymore but he is barking and I follow him this way until I can see him again on the other side of the field waiting for me. Next to him is a man in an orange vest. He looks friendly and runs out to me and catches me as I fall. The dog runs up to me and licks me. I look at the dog’s bandanna and it says “Angel”.
The man looks as me and says, “We’ve been trying to find you. I’m part of the search team. Are you okay?” I nod and thank God for sending my Angel.
