During time with God, I read of reflection that really touches my heart so I grabbed hold of my journal. Taking pen to paper, I wrote to God. I invite you to read my letter to God and his comments back to me.
ME WRITING
While reading a reflection, I find the words, ”I will draw you” especially comforting. This is because, in so many songs, written words, and speeches, I see or hear people proclaiming “Come closer to me God” when in fact it is WE who need to move closer to God. God has not moved—we do. It is refreshing to see the words that more accurately reflect the God-Child of God relationship. God does not abandon us, rather it is we who often rely on God as a crisis hotline.
It boils down to the ownership of our faith. We are the ones who must continually draw closer to God. “Come back to me” I heard someone say, is a perfect reflection of the love relationship God has for, and with, us. God can knock on the door, yet WE must open it. God never forces himself on us. He never stops watching over us. Our actions befuddle God. He is likely thinking “If you will only draw closer to me my child, I can ease your burdens.”
This does not mean that God will give us $1,000,000 or refurbished families. God is the softener in life much like Downy® is the softener to clothes being washed. As we draw closer to God, we go through our own wash cycle—cleaning up our vision to see God’s works in our lives.
Let us always remember it is we who must move. God can move mountains but we must make moves toward God as we grow closer in communion with him in friendship, love, reliance, gratitude, and desire.
GOD WRITING
Come back to me dear daughter. You so much want to sacrifice eating more than necessary. You desire to make peace with food. If only you will heed the Holy Spirit whispers to offer it up as a sacrifice. Unite your small sacrifice to the supreme, ultimate sacrifice Jesus made on the Cross, and connect it as a prayer for someone in need.
Put away the snacks of temptation that call you by name. We both know this is the evil one is trying desperately to find a kink in your armor of Christ or a crack in the wall of defense that surrounds you by my grace. When you stop believing, even briefly, that I will help you to find peace with food, those kinks and cracks will allow the evil one to penetrate your peace.
Move closer and come back to me your daughter. I have not moved. My heart is sad when you cry out “Why have you abandoned me?” or “Where are you God?”
Where is your God? I am right here and—where I have always been, and will remain for the rest of your earthly life. Come back to me and bring your whole heart. Allow me to fill the hole in your heart with my love and grace.
With endless love, Your Heavenly Father

Well done.
God bless~
I agree that we put too much emphasis on God drawing near to us, when it is us that leave him and go astray. We need to return to Him.
Thank you for sharing! Praying for you as you fight your battle.
Great job in writing this and exposing this all too often overlooked dilemma. I liked how you highlighted food, but I could be anything that we put priority on over God.
The enemy knows our individual weakness so well and is a master at setting us up to be self deceived.
